Homestead Exemption
A Homestead Exemption Can Lower Your Tax Bill in Parmer County
If this is your main home, you may qualify for a homestead exemption that reduces what you owe in property taxes.
Texas law lets homeowners reduce the taxable value of their primary residence. This is called a homestead exemption. You apply for it through the Parmer County Appraisal District, not through a state office. The general filing deadline is before May 1, but check with the district for the current date.
Once approved, the exemption stays in place as long as the property remains your main home. School districts, the county, and other local taxing units each set their own exemption amounts. Check parmercad.org or call 806-251-1405 to get the current forms and amounts. The Texas Comptroller also has the statewide rules and forms.
