Homestead Exemption Can Cut Your Tax Bill
If your home in Potter County is your primary residence, you can apply for a homestead exemption and lower your taxable value.
Texas law requires school districts to give homeowners a $140,000 exemption on their main home. Some other local taxing units may offer additional exemptions. Seniors aged 65 and older and people with disabilities qualify for extra reductions.
You apply through the Potter County Appraisal District, not the tax office. The general deadline is before May 1 of the year you are claiming. You only need to apply once, and the exemption stays as long as you live there. Use form 50-114 to apply. Find forms and current details at prad.org.
