Homestead Exemption

How to Lower Your Property Tax with a Homestead Exemption

If your home in Randall County is your main residence, you may qualify for a homestead exemption that reduces your taxable property value.

Texas law requires school districts to give a $140,000 homestead exemption on your primary residence. That means the school district taxes only the value above $140,000. Other taxing units — like the county and city — may offer additional exemptions on top of that.

To apply, file Form 50-114 with the Potter-Randall Appraisal District (PRAD). You typically must apply by April 30 after you move in, though rules can change. Check prad.org or call PRAD at 806-358-1601 to confirm current deadlines and any extra exemptions for people over 65 or with disabilities.
