Homestead Exemption

Homestead Exemption Can Lower Your Tax Bill

If your home in Tom Green County is your main residence, you may qualify for a homestead exemption that reduces your property taxes.

Texas law requires school districts to give homeowners a $140,000 exemption off their home's taxable value. That means the school district taxes only the amount above $140,000. Other taxing units in Tom Green County — like the county or city — may offer additional local exemptions.

You apply by filing Form 50-114 with the Tom Green County Appraisal District. The general deadline is before May 1 of the tax year, but check with the appraisal district for current deadlines. You must own and live in the home as your primary residence.
