Property Tax Exemption
Homestead exemption can lower your tax bill
If you own and live in your home in Uvalde County, you may qualify for exemptions that lower your property tax bill.
Texas law lets homeowners cut their taxable value if the home is their main residence. Under Tax Code §11.13(b), school districts are required to remove $140,000 from your taxable value. This is called the general homestead exemption. The Texas Comptroller confirms this amount as current law.
The county itself may remove an extra amount. Check with the appraisal district for the current county exemption. If you are over 65 or disabled, you may qualify for even more.
You apply through the Uvalde County Appraisal District. All exemptions require an application and proof that you qualify. The general filing deadline under state law is before May 1. Confirm the current deadline and exemption amounts at uvaldecad.org.
