Homestead Exemption
Homestead Exemption Can Lower Your Tax Bill
If you own and live in your home in Wichita County, you can apply for a homestead exemption to reduce what you pay in school taxes.
The general homestead exemption removes part of your home's value from the school district tax. This lowers your annual tax bill. You must own the home and live in it as your main residence. You can only claim one homestead in Texas.
Once you file, you do not need to reapply each year unless the appraisal district asks you to. Homeowners 65 and older get an extra deduction and a school tax ceiling. Veterans with a 100% disability rating may qualify for a full exemption. File with the Wichita Appraisal District at wadtx.com or call (940) 322-2435. There is no filing fee.
