Property Tax Basics
How Property Tax Works in Wichita County
The Wichita Appraisal District sets your property value each year, and a separate tax office collects your bill.
Two offices handle property tax here. The Wichita Appraisal District (WAD) values your property as of January 1 each year. A separate county tax office then sends your bill and collects payment. These are different offices with different jobs.
If you think your value is too high, you can protest it. The general deadline to file a protest is May 15 or 30 days after you receive your notice—whichever is later. You can file online, by mail, or in person at 600 Scott Ave., Suite 300, Wichita Falls. There is no fee to protest. Check wadtx.com for current forms and deadlines, as details can change.
