You Need a Texas Hunting License on Private Land Here Too

You need a Texas hunting license to hunt any animal in the state — even on private land you own — and you must buy it before you go out.

Winkler County has ranches with deer, pronghorn, quail, dove, and more. But you still need a license to hunt here. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) says every hunter must have a valid license. It does not matter if the land is yours or leased. The one exception is feral hogs on private land — you do not need a license for those if the landowner says it is okay. There is no state park in Winkler County, so nearly all hunting happens on private land.

You can buy a license online at the TPWD website. You can also get one at sporting goods stores or some grocery stores. Seasons and bag limits change every year. Check the TPWD Outdoor Annual before you go out. If you live out of state, you need a non-resident license. It costs more than the resident version.
