Hunting in Cass County: seasons and bag limits to know
Cass County sits in the North Zone for deer and the East Zone for spring turkey, with doves in the Central Zone and ducks in the North Zone, so seasons and bag limits here differ from other parts of Texas.
White-tailed deer hunters follow North Zone rules. Archery season runs in late September through October. General season opens November 1. The total bag limit is four deer, with no more than two bucks. Only one of those bucks may have an inside spread of 13 inches or greater. Spring turkey season in Cass County allows gobblers only. Seasons and dates shift year to year — always check the current TPWD Outdoor Annual before you hunt.
Dove, duck, quail, and squirrel seasons are also open in Cass County. Squirrel hunting runs through the East Texas season. A valid Texas hunting license is required for all game. If you plan to hunt public land, an Annual Public Hunting Permit is also needed. TPWD sets regulations each year, so verify current rules at the TPWD website or in the printed Outdoor Annual.
