Wright Patman Lake: fishing and camping on Cass County's western edge
Wright Patman Lake sits on the Sulphur River and stretches across Bowie and Cass counties, offering fishing, camping, and boating managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The lake covers about 18,994 surface acres, according to TPWD. The Corps of Engineers maintains multiple parks around the lake, with substantial surrounding land managed for public recreation and wildlife habitat — check the Corps website for current acreage figures. Activities include fishing, camping, boating, swimming, and hiking. Bald eagles, pelicans, and migratory ducks are visible during winter. Advance reservations are now required at all campgrounds — book through recreation.gov.
For fishing, the lake holds largemouth bass, crappie, white bass, blue catfish, channel catfish, flathead catfish, and sunfish. White bass and crappie are noted as strong fisheries. Anglers should check TPWD for any consumption advisories and current size or bag limits before heading out. A Texas fishing license is required.
