Hunting Seasons in Childress County

Childress County sits in the Panhandle hunting zones and offers deer, turkey, quail, pheasant, and dove — but each species has different seasons, bag limits, and required permits.

Childress County is in the Panhandle hunting zones. Each species has its own season dates, bag limits, and permit rules.

White-tailed deer follow North Zone rules. The general season runs roughly November through early January. The bag limit is 5 deer total, with no more than 1 buck across all seasons combined.

Mule deer are present here too under Panhandle rules. Only bucks with an outside spread of 20 inches or greater may be taken.

Pheasant season runs December into early January. The daily limit is 3 cocks. Quail season runs November through late February. The daily limit is 15 birds. An Upland Game Bird Endorsement is required for turkey, quail, and pheasant.

Dove season opens September 1 in the North Zone. You need a Migratory Game Bird Endorsement and HIP Certification to hunt dove.

Turkey season runs in both fall (alongside deer season) and spring (late March through mid-May).

Seasons and bag limits can change each year. Always check the current TPWD Outdoor Annual for Childress County before you hunt. Penalties apply for violations.
