Who Handles Your Property Tax in Childress County

The appraisal district sets your property value and collects your tax. The local tax assessor-collector does not collect property tax here.

The Childress County Appraisal District (CCAD) decides what your property is worth for tax purposes. CCAD also collects property taxes for the county and most local taxing units.

The local tax assessor-collector office does not collect property taxes here. If you owe property tax, you pay CCAD directly — not the assessor-collector.

Nine different taxing units use the same appraised value. They are: the county, the City of Childress, three school districts (Childress, Wellington, and Memphis ISD), a health district, two groundwater conservation districts, and Clarendon Junior College District.

Each of these nine units sets its own tax rate. Your total tax bill adds all the rates that apply to your address. Check the CCAD website or call them to find the current rates for your property.
