Hunting in Scurry County: Deer, Quail, and More

Scurry County falls in Texas's North Zone and offers seasons for white-tailed deer, mule deer, quail, dove, and other game — but most land is private, so access requires a lease or landowner permission.

Scurry County is in the North Zone for most Texas hunting rules. White-tailed deer season starts with archery in late September. A general season runs in November and January. The bag limit is five deer. Mule deer hunting is allowed here too. The limit is one buck across all seasons combined. Quail season runs November through February.

Almost all land in Scurry County is privately owned. Public hunting spots are limited. Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) offers an Annual Public Hunting permit. It gives access to certain public lands across the state. Check the current Public Hunting Lands Map Booklet to see what is available near this county. All hunters need a valid Texas hunting license and any required endorsements. Seasons and limits change year to year. Always confirm the current rules with TPWD before you go.
