Hunting License
Hunting in Gaines County requires a Texas license from TPWD
Anyone hunting in Gaines County needs a valid Texas hunting license, and some game like pronghorn antelope require a separate permit.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) issues all hunting licenses in Texas. To hunt in Gaines County, you need a valid Texas hunting license. Common game here includes mule deer, white-tailed deer, and pronghorn antelope. A standard license covers most game. Pronghorn are different — they need a separate permit on top of the license.
Pronghorn permits go to landowners or their agents through TPWD's Land Management Assistance (LMA) system. Hunters get access through the landowner. You cannot apply to TPWD directly for a pronghorn permit.
Almost all land in Gaines County is private. You must have the landowner's permission before you hunt. There are no state parks or major public hunting areas in the county. Season dates, bag limits, and license fees change each year. Check TPWD's Outdoor Annual before you go out. Do not assume the rules are the same as last year.
