Have a Hurricane Evacuation Plan Before Storm Season
Montgomery County sits in the Houston hurricane zone, and residents should know their evacuation route before a storm threatens.
Montgomery County is about 40 miles north of Houston. That is still close enough to be hit hard by Gulf Coast hurricanes. Hurricane Harvey in 2017 caused record flooding across the county even though it made landfall far to the south. When a big storm is coming, officials may order evacuations for low-lying areas.
SH 99 (Grand Parkway) and I-45 are the main roads used for evacuating the region. The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) plans statewide evacuations. Before hurricane season each year, check your county's emergency management page. Follow weather alerts from the National Weather Service at weather.gov/hgx, which covers the Houston-Galveston area.
