Know Your Hurricane Evacuation Zone Before Storm Season in Brazoria County

Brazoria County is divided into hurricane evacuation zones, and residents in coastal and low-lying areas should know their zone and planned route before hurricane season begins.

Brazoria County uses hurricane evacuation zones based on storm surge risk. Residents closer to the coast and in low-lying areas are typically ordered to leave first. Before hurricane season, check the Brazoria County Emergency Management page at brazoriacountytx.gov to confirm your zone and the routes recommended for your area.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) can activate contraflow on major highways when a storm threatens. Contraflow means some entry ramps close and all lanes flow in one direction — outbound only. If that happens, you may need to drive farther to get on the highway. Knowing this ahead of time helps.

TxDOT posts current evacuation maps and a statewide guide at txdot.gov. Do not wait for an evacuation order to plan your route. During major hurricane evacuations, traffic can make roads impassable within hours.
