Lake Meredith Offers Boating, Fishing, and Camping Near Amarillo
Lake Meredith National Recreation Area sits on the Canadian River northwest of Amarillo and provides free boating, fishing, camping, and hiking in the Texas Panhandle.
Lake Meredith National Recreation Area covers about 44,978 acres along the Canadian River. The Canadian River carved deep canyon breaks around the lake, giving the area a rugged look unusual for the flat Panhandle.
There is no fee to boat on the lake. The park has 11 campgrounds. A Texas fishing license is required to fish. Water levels on the lake have varied over the years, so check current conditions before hauling a boat.
