Lake Stamford: Haskell County's main public water body
Lake Stamford is the main reservoir in Haskell County, offering fishing for bass, catfish, and crappie, though public shoreline access is limited to two marina areas.
Lake Stamford sits on Paint Creek, a tributary of the Clear Fork Brazos River, in the southeast part of Haskell County near the city of Stamford. Construction was completed in 1953. It provides fishing for largemouth bass, channel catfish, and crappie.
Public shoreline access to the lake is limited to two marina areas on opposite sides of the reservoir. Stamford Marina, in the Stamford city park off FM 2976, has a two-lane boat ramp. Anchor Marina, in Silo Scott Memorial Park off FM 3495, has a one-lane boat ramp. Both parks also offer shoreline access for bank anglers. If you plan to fish, check current access conditions before you go.
Standard Texas fishing license rules apply. You need a valid Texas freshwater fishing license to fish Lake Stamford. License information and current statewide regulations are at tpwd.texas.gov.
