Border Economy
Laredo Is a Top U.S. Port of Entry for Trade
Laredo handles more international trade truck traffic than any other port on the U.S.-Mexico border, shaping the economy of all of Webb County.
Laredo has five international bridges crossing the Rio Grande — four vehicular bridges and one railroad bridge. Two of the vehicular bridges handle commercial trucks. In 2015, the Laredo customs district accounted for about 57.8% of all Texas border trade, which came to $204 billion in total trade value that year, according to the Texas Comptroller.
More than 2 million trucks — about half of all truck crossings from Mexico into Texas — went through Laredo in 2015. This trade economy creates jobs in logistics, warehousing, customs brokerage, and retail. It also means heavy commercial traffic on Laredo's roads. If you work in trade or supply chain, Laredo is a major hub.
