Property Tax
Your tax bill combines rates from several taxing units
Property owners in Henderson County pay taxes to several different entities at once, not just the county.
Henderson County has many taxing units. A taxing unit is any government body that can charge you property tax. The county itself is one unit. Twelve school districts are also units — Athens, Malakoff, Brownsboro, and others. Cities like Athens, Malakoff, and Tool are units too. So are special districts like Henderson County Emergency Service Districts and the Trinity Valley Community College District.
Your total tax rate depends on which units cover your land. A home inside Athens city limits pays a different combined rate than one out in the county. The Henderson County Tax Assessor-Collector collects for most of these units. Use the Texas Comptroller's county directory to see which ones apply to your address.
