The 1905 courthouse is a restored landmark in Corsicana
The Navarro County Courthouse in Corsicana was built in 1905, restored in 2016, and is notable for rare interior plasterwork that mimics marble.
Dallas architect James Edward Flanders designed the current courthouse. He used a Classical Revival style with fancy decorative details. It is the fifth courthouse to serve the county. The previous one was condemned in 1904 because of an unstable foundation.
The building is made of red Burnet granite and buff brick. It has a French clay tile roof and an open clock tower.
A restoration finished in 2016 brought back original features. Those include gold leaf trim and a two-story district courtroom. The interior columns are finished with a technique called scagliola. That is an Italian method where layers of tinted plaster are shaped and polished to look like marble. The Texas Historical Commission oversaw the preservation work.
