Move to Collin County from another state? Texas law requires you to register your vehicle within 30 days of becoming a resident.

Collin County Cars & Driving

Register your vehicle through the Collin County Tax Assessor-Collector. That office handles vehicle titles and registration. Locations are in McKinney, Frisco, and Plano. Before you register, you need to transfer your title into a Texas title in your name. You also need to pass the emissions test. Collin County is in the DFW emissions zone, so the test is required.

You must exchange your out-of-state driver license for a Texas license within 90 days of moving here. That is the guidance from TxDMV. You can renew registration online or by mail after your first registration. Check current fees and required documents at txdmv.gov.
