Mineral Rights

Randall County Has No Significant Oil or Gas Production

Unlike many Texas counties, Randall County has no significant mineral deposits, so oil and gas royalties are not a common consideration for property buyers here.

The Texas Handbook says no significant mineral deposits exist in Randall County. The county runs on farming, education, and tourism — not oil and gas. That is different from neighboring Potter County to the north, or from counties in the Permian Basin to the south. In those places, mineral rights can be a big part of a land deal.

Even so, if you buy land in Randall County, a title search may show that someone else owns the minerals under the surface. That is called split ownership. It is worth asking your title company about mineral ownership when you buy rural land anywhere in Texas. Do this even when there is no active drilling nearby.
