Water Supply
Most of Collin County's Tap Water Comes from Lake Lavon
The North Texas Municipal Water District supplies treated water to most cities in Collin County, drawing heavily from Lake Lavon, which sits in the county.
The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) serves over 2.3 million people across a 2,200-square-mile region. Lake Lavon — right here in Collin County — was the first reservoir built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for NTMWD, and it remains the district's largest water source. NTMWD also draws from Lake Texoma, Lake Tawakoni, Jim Chapman Lake, and Bois d'Arc Lake.
NTMWD operates seven water treatment plants and more than 695 miles of transmission pipelines. Member cities and customer utilities then distribute the treated water to residents. If you are in a city or a water supply district in Collin County, your water almost certainly passes through the NTMWD system. Learn more at ntmwd.com.
