Nueces County covers 847 square miles on the Gulf Coast near Corpus Christi Bay
Nueces County sits on the Gulf Coast, bounded by the Nueces River to the north and Corpus Christi Bay to the east, with flat terrain ranging from sea level to about 180 feet.
The county lies in the Coastal Prairies region southeast of San Antonio. It covers 847 square miles. Elevations are low — most of the county is flat coastal plain. The barrier islands of Mustang Island and Padre Island lie along the eastern edge, separated from the mainland by Corpus Christi Bay and the Laguna Madre.
Interstate 37 connects Corpus Christi to San Antonio. US 77 runs south toward the Rio Grande Valley. The county includes the cities of Corpus Christi, Robstown, Bishop, and Port Aransas, plus unincorporated communities.
