Flood Planning
A regional flood plan guides how Nueces County manages flood risk
The Texas Water Development Board adopted a Nueces Regional Flood Plan that sets long-term strategies for reducing flood damage in the county.
Texas law requires each region to make a flood plan. The Nueces Regional Flood Plan covers Nueces County and the areas around it. It lists known flood risks, looks at past flood events, and names projects that could lower future damage.
If you are buying land near the Nueces River or in low coastal areas, the flood plan can help you understand what risks have already been identified. Reading it costs nothing. The Texas Water Development Board posts the plan on its website. Check the plan before you buy or build in a flood-prone area — it is one of the most complete pictures of local flood risk available.
