Oil and Gas Activity Is Regulated from Lubbock

Crosby County falls under Railroad Commission District 8A, based in Lubbock, which oversees all oil and gas operations in the county.

Oil was found in Crosby County in 1955. Today, all oil and gas drilling, production, and pipeline work here is overseen by the Texas Railroad Commission (RRC). Crosby County is in RRC District 8A. That district is run out of the Lubbock field office. The RRC has free online tools. You can search well records, production data, and permits by county.

Buying rural land? Mineral rights don't always come with it. A past owner may have kept them. Check before you buy. The RRC's Production Data Query (PDQ) shows production going back to 1993. You can search by county, operator, or lease. Drilling records, completion reports, and plugging records go back to 1964. Find them through the RRC's Oil and Gas Imaged Records Query. The RRC website is the right place to start.
