Extra Property Tax Relief for Seniors and Disabled Homeowners in Tarrant County

Homeowners 65 or older, or those with a qualifying disability, can apply for additional property tax exemptions that reduce what they owe each year.

If you qualify, you get an extra exemption on top of the standard homestead exemption. That means your taxable value drops even further. The over-65 exemption also freezes the school district part of your tax bill. That portion cannot go up as long as you stay in the home and keep the exemption active.

You apply through the Tarrant Appraisal District (TAD). There is no fee to apply. Call TAD's exemption line at 817-284-4063 or go to tad.org to get the forms. You will need proof of your age or a document showing your qualifying disability. Apply as soon as you are eligible — the sooner you file, the sooner the savings start.
