Palo Duro Canyon State Park: The County's Crown Outdoor Feature

Palo Duro Canyon State Park, located just east of Canyon in Randall County, is a massive canyon that offers hiking, camping, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

Palo Duro Canyon is roughly 120 miles long, up to 20 miles wide, and as deep as 800 feet. The park sits in Randall County and covers terrain from 2,759 to 3,463 feet in elevation. It has over 30 miles of trails for hikers, bikers, and horseback riders, plus campsites with electricity, tent sites, cabins on the rim and canyon floor, and equestrian sites.

Day-use admission is $8 for adults; children 12 and under are free. The park fills up, especially on weekends, so TPWD recommends reserving in advance at tpwd.texas.gov or by calling 512-389-8900. Flash flooding is a real hazard in the canyon — watch the weather closely if you camp on the canyon floor.
