Port Aransas is in Nueces County and reached by ferry or causeway
Port Aransas sits on Mustang Island in Nueces County and is accessible by a free state-operated ferry from Aransas Pass or by crossing the JFK Causeway from Corpus Christi and driving north on SH 361.
Two routes reach Port Aransas. You can drive south from Rockport on SH 35 to Aransas Pass, then take the free Texas Department of Transportation ferry across the ship channel. Or you can drive the JFK Causeway from Corpus Christi south and then north on SH 361.
During hurricane evacuations, both routes can become congested or closed. TxDOT issues guidance on which routes are safe before and during storms. Residents of Port Aransas are advised to evacuate early when a storm threatens.
