Who Handles Property Taxes in Donley County

The Donley County Appraisal District sets the value of your property, and a separate tax office handles billing — knowing the difference saves confusion.

Two offices handle property taxes in Donley County. The Donley County Appraisal District (CAD) decides how much your property is worth for tax purposes. It is at 304 S. Kearney St. in Clarendon. A separate county tax office handles collecting payments. The Texas Comptroller lists both offices for Donley County.

If you think your property is valued too high, you protest at the CAD — not the tax office. Exemption applications, like the homestead exemption, also go through the CAD. The general deadline to file most exemptions is May 1 each year, but check with the CAD since deadlines can shift. Texas law requires school districts to give homeowners a $140,000 exemption on their main residence under Tax Code Section 11.13(b).
