How Property Taxes Work in Maverick County

One office appraises your property and a separate office collects taxes — knowing both saves confusion.

The Maverick County Appraisal District (MCAD) sets the value of every property in the county each year. It serves four taxing units: Maverick County, the City of Eagle Pass, Eagle Pass ISD, and the Maverick County Hospital District. Each unit sets its own tax rate on top of the appraised value.

A separate office — the Tax Assessor-Collector — handles vehicle registration and collects taxes. MCAD is located at 2243 N. Veterans Blvd., Eagle Pass. If you live in the home you own, you may qualify for a homestead exemption. Texas law requires school districts to give a homestead exemption. The deadline to file is generally before May 1, but confirm the current year's deadline with MCAD directly.
