Who Handles Property Taxes in San Saba County

The San Saba Central Appraisal District sets property values for all taxing units in the county, but separate entities collect your taxes.

The San Saba Central Appraisal District (CAD) appraises all property in the county. It works on behalf of eight local taxing units: San Saba County, the cities of San Saba and Richland Springs, four school districts, and the Hickory Underground Water Conservation District. The CAD does not collect your taxes — each taxing unit sets its own rate and collects its own bills.

To file a homestead exemption, you must own your home and live there on January 1 of the tax year. Applications are due by May 1. You will need a copy of your driver's license showing the property address. Homeowners age 65 or older qualify for additional exemptions. Contact the CAD at 601 W. Wallace St., San Saba, TX 76877, or call 325-372-5031. The Texas Comptroller's county directory lists all taxing units.
