Who Handles Property Taxes in Wood County

Two separate offices handle your property taxes — the appraisal district sets the value, and the tax assessor-collector sends the bill.

In Wood County, the Wood County Appraisal District (WCAD) decides what your property is worth for tax purposes. They are located in Quitman at 210 Clark St. Their website is woodcad.net. A different office — the Tax Assessor-Collector — sends out your tax bill and collects payment. That office is at 220 S. Stephens St., also in Quitman.

If you think your property value is wrong, you file a protest with the appraisal district, not the tax office. Protest deadlines fall around May 1 each year — always check the WCAD website for the exact current deadline. The Texas Comptroller lists both offices in its county directory.
