Who Appraises Your Property in Zapata County

Two separate offices handle property taxes in Zapata County — one sets your property value, the other collects the tax.

The Zapata County Appraisal District sets the value of your property each year. That value determines how much tax you owe. The appraisal district does not collect the money — it just sets the number. The office is at 200 E. 7th Ave., Suite 240, in Zapata. Phone: 956-765-9988.

A separate office, the Zapata County Tax Assessor-Collector, sends your tax bill and collects payment. It is at 200 E. 7th St., Suite 226. Phone: 956-765-9971. If you think your appraisal is too high, you have the right to protest. Check the appraisal district's website for current deadlines, since they change year to year. Four taxing units collect taxes here: the county, Zapata ISD, Zapata County WCID, and Siesta Shores WCID. Each sets its own rate.
