Who Handles Your Property Tax in Hardeman County
Two separate offices handle property tax in Hardeman County — one sets your value, the other collects the bill.
The Hardeman County Appraisal District sets the taxable value of your property. It is located at 403 S. Main St. in Quanah. The appraisal district is separate from the tax office. You go to the appraisal district to protest your value or apply for exemptions like the homestead exemption.
The Tax Assessor-Collector sends the actual tax bill and collects payment. That office is at 300 S. Main St. in Quanah. Texas law requires school districts to give homeowners a $140,000 exemption on a primary residence. You must own and live in the home on January 1 of the tax year to qualify. File your exemption application with the appraisal district, not the tax office. Check hardemancad.org for current forms and deadlines.
