Who handles property taxes in Reagan County

Two separate offices handle property appraisal and tax collection in Reagan County, and knowing the difference saves you time.

The Reagan County Appraisal District sets the value of your property. It sits at 409 2nd St. in Big Lake. The appraisal district does not collect taxes — it only determines what your property is worth for tax purposes. If you think your value is too high, you can protest it through this office. Call 325-884-3275 or email reagancad@verizon.net.

The Tax Assessor-Collector is a separate office at 300 N. Plaza Ave. in Big Lake. This office sends bills and collects what you owe. Six taxing entities collect from Reagan County property owners: the county itself, Reagan County ISD, the City of Big Lake, the Santa Rita Underground Water District, the Reagan County Hospital District, and the Reagan County Water Supply District. To qualify for a homestead exemption, you must apply through the appraisal district and include a copy of your driver's license. Check the Texas Comptroller's county directory for current contact details and deadlines.
