Appraisal Protest

How to Protest Your Property Value in Cameron County

If you think your appraised value is too high, you can protest it — but you must act quickly after your notice arrives.

Every year the Cameron Appraisal District (CAD) sets a value for your property. That value is used to calculate your tax bill. If you think the value is too high, you have the right to protest it.

Protests must be filed in writing by May 15, or within 30 days of receiving your Notice of Appraised Value — whichever is later. You can mail, fax, hand-deliver, or email your protest to protest@cameroncad.org.

You are protesting with the CAD, not the tax office. The CAD is the office that set the value. Check your notice as soon as it arrives. Missing the deadline means you lose your chance to protest for that year. Visit cameroncad.org for protest forms and instructions.
