Tax Protest

You can protest your property value in Gregg County

If you think the Gregg County Appraisal District overvalued your property, you have the right to protest — and a deadline to do it.

Each spring, GCAD mails a Notice of Appraised Value. If you disagree with the value, you can file a protest with the Appraisal Review Board (ARB). The ARB is an independent panel that hears disputes between property owners and the appraisal district. The deadline to file is typically May 15, or 30 days after the appraisal district mails your notice — whichever is later.

You can protest online, by mail, or in person. Bring evidence: recent sale prices of similar nearby homes, a recent appraisal, or photos showing problems with the property. Many owners resolve protests informally with an appraiser before going to a formal hearing. Check gcad.org for the current protest deadline and filing instructions — deadlines are strictly enforced.
