The Morris County Appraisal District handles both appraisal and tax collection

In Morris County, the appraisal district sets your property value and collects your taxes. The county tax assessor-collector does not collect property taxes here.

The Morris County Appraisal District sets the taxable value of every property in the county. It is at 501 Crockett St., Suite 1, in Daingerfield. This office also takes homestead exemption applications. A homestead exemption lowers the taxable value of your main home. That means a smaller tax bill. The usual deadline to file is before May 1 each year. Check with the district, because deadlines can change.

Most Texas counties have a separate tax assessor-collector that collects property taxes. Morris County does not work that way. The appraisal district handles both appraisal and collection. If you think your property value is too high, you protest it at the appraisal district. The Texas Comptroller's county directory has current contact details for both offices.
