Property Tax Basics
Orange County Has Two Separate Property Tax Offices
The appraisal district sets your property value; the tax assessor-collector handles your bill and payment.
Orange County has two offices that deal with property taxes. The Orange County Appraisal District (OCAD) decides what your property is worth. The Tax Assessor-Collector then uses that value to calculate and collect your tax bill. These are separate offices with different phone numbers and addresses.
If you think your property value is wrong, you must protest with the appraisal district, not the tax office. The general deadline to file a protest is May 1 each year, though you should confirm the current deadline with OCAD. For billing questions or payments, contact the Tax Assessor-Collector. The Texas Comptroller lists both offices and their contact details on its county directory page.
