Property Tax: Two Separate Offices Handle Appraisal and Collection
Palo Pinto County has two separate offices for property tax — one sets your value, one sends your bill.
The Palo Pinto Appraisal District sets the assessed value of your property. It is located at 200 Church Ave. in Palo Pinto and can be reached at 940-659-1281. This is where you file for exemptions — including the homestead exemption — and where you protest if you think your value is too high. The general deadline to file an exemption application is May 1 each year, but confirm current deadlines directly with the district.
A separate office — the Tax Assessor-Collector — handles billing and payment. It is located at 520 Oak St. in Palo Pinto (940-659-1271). If you have questions about your tax bill or need to pay, that is the right office. If you have questions about your appraised value or want an exemption, go to the appraisal district. Mixing up the two is a common and costly mistake.
