Two Separate Offices Handle Property Tax in Stephens County
The appraisal district sets your property value, and a separate tax assessor-collector office handles payments — they are not the same office.
The Stephens County Appraisal District sets the taxable value of your property each year. Its office is at 201 S. Rose Ave. in Breckenridge. If you believe your value is too high, you can file a protest with the Appraisal Review Board. The protest deadline is generally May 15, or 30 days after the appraisal district mails your notice — whichever is later. The general deadline to file an exemption application is before May 1. Check the appraisal district's tax calendar for the current year's exact dates.
The Tax Assessor-Collector is a separate office at 200 W. Walker St. in Breckenridge and handles collection for many local taxing units. If you are new to the county, confirm which office handles your specific bill. Both contacts are listed in the Texas Comptroller's county directory.
