Appraisal Protest
You can protest your property value if you think it is too high
Victoria County property owners can formally protest their appraised value each year if they believe the appraisal district set it too high.
Each spring, VCAD sends out appraisal notices. If you think your value is wrong or unfair, you have the right to protest. You file your protest with the appraisal district — not with the tax office. The deadline is typically May 15 or 30 days after you receive your notice, whichever is later, but confirm the current date with VCAD.
You can try to resolve the protest informally with an appraiser first. If that fails, you present your case to the Appraisal Review Board (ARB), a panel of local citizens. Bring comparable sales, photos, or other evidence. Contact VCAD at victoriacad.org for forms and current deadlines.
