An Annual Permit Opens TPWD Public Hunting Lands Statewide

Moore County has little public hunting land, but Texas Parks and Wildlife sells an annual permit that opens public hunting lands across the whole state.

Most of Moore County is private farm and ranch land. The county has no major state park or large public wildlife management area of its own.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) sells an Annual Public Hunting (APH) permit. It lets you hunt, fish, camp, and hike on TPWD-managed public lands anywhere in the state.

The price and the list of available tracts change each year. Check the TPWD public hunting page for current costs and a map of open lands.

Many Panhandle hunters also use private leases. If you are new to the area, the TPWD site is the place to start for legal public access.

Note: you still need a standard hunting or fishing license on top of the APH permit.
