Wood County Has Four Major Recreational Lakes
Wood County has four lakes used for fishing, boating, and recreation: Lake Fork Reservoir, Lake Quitman, Lake Winnsboro, and Lake Hawkins.
Lake Fork Reservoir is the county's best-known lake and draws anglers from across the state for largemouth bass fishing. It sits on the border of Wood and Rains counties. Lake Quitman is near the county seat. Lake Winnsboro is near Winnsboro in the eastern part of the county. Lake Hawkins is near the town of Hawkins.
Each lake has its own access points, rules, and nearby facilities. TPWD manages fishing regulations for all four. If you are moving to Wood County, proximity to a lake can affect both recreation options and, in some areas, property flood zone risk — check FEMA flood maps at msc.fema.gov for any specific parcel near the water.
