How to Look Up Oil and Gas Wells Near Your Tarrant County Property

The Railroad Commission of Texas lets anyone search for active, inactive, and permitted oil and gas wells using a free online map.

Go to rrc.texas.gov and use the Public GIS Viewer or the Production Data Query (PDQ) tool to look up wells by location or operator. The results show well status, permit dates, and production history. The search is free and open to the public.

This lookup is useful if you are buying a home near a former Barnett Shale drill site or if you want to know whether a company holds a drilling lease under your land. If you are not sure how to use the online tools, the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) also answers questions by phone. Checking for nearby wells before you buy can avoid surprises later.
