Special Tax Districts: MUDs and PIDs in Tarrant County
Some Tarrant County properties lie inside special tax districts that add an extra line to your property tax bill.
A Municipal Utility District (MUD) is a local government that pays for water, sewer, and drainage in newer neighborhoods. Developers set them up so builders can fund that infrastructure over time. A Public Improvement District (PID) is similar — it pays for things like roads, lighting, or landscaping in a set area. Both show up as extra lines on your tax bill.
Tarrant County has several of these districts, including MUDs and Fort Worth PIDs. The Tarrant County Tax Office collects taxes for all of them. Before you buy, look up which tax entities are attached to a property at tarrantcountytx.gov. A MUD or PID can add several hundred dollars a year to your tax bill.
