Tarrant County's Courthouse Is a Pink Granite Landmark Built in 1895

The Tarrant County Courthouse, completed in 1895, is built of pink granite and stands in downtown Fort Worth as a symbol of the county's growth in the late 1800s.

The courthouse was finished in 1895, right as Tarrant County was growing fast after the cattle trail and railroad eras. It is still a working courthouse today. The outside is clad in pink granite — a look shared by many Texas courthouses built during that same period. The building stands in the heart of downtown Fort Worth.

Fort Worth won the right to be the county seat in an 1860 election, decisively beating out the earlier seat at Birdville. That vote set Fort Worth on the path to becoming the county's center of government and commerce. The courthouse still anchors that civic identity today.
