Tarrant County Is One of the Fastest-Growing Counties in Texas

Tarrant County has grown from 664 residents in 1850 to more than 2 million people today — driven by cattle, railroads, aviation, and technology industries.

In 1850 Tarrant County had just 664 people. Today the county has more than 2 million. That growth was pushed along by the cattle trade, the arrival of the railroad in 1876, the growth of aviation, and more recently by technology and business industries. Fort Worth has long competed with neighboring Dallas for new residents and investment.

Tarrant County is home to Fort Worth, Arlington, Grand Prairie, and many other cities. The DFW area as a whole is one of the fastest-growing metro areas in the United States. All that growth puts pressure on housing, water supply, roads, and public services. It also pushes up property values and tax appraisals each year.
